Getting Started with DevDesk
Get up and running with DevDesk in less than 5 minutes. This guide will walk you through installation, first launch, and creating your first note.
Installation
Download
DevDesk is currently available for macOS (Apple Silicon):
System Requirements
- macOS: macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later
- Windows: Windows 10/11 (64-bit)
- Linux: Modern distribution with glibc 2.31+
- RAM: 2GB minimum (4GB recommended)
- Disk: 200MB for app + space for your data
First Launch
When you first launch DevDesk, you'll see the main interface with three primary sections:
Notes
Your markdown-based knowledge base with wiki-links and version history
Snippets
Code library with syntax highlighting and auto-language detection
Clipboard
Auto-capturing clipboard history with rich metadata
Create Your First Note
- Open the Command Palette: Press Cmd+K (macOS) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux)
- Or use the shortcut: Press Cmd+N / Ctrl+N to create a note directly
- Start writing: The Monaco editor will open with a blank note. Start typing markdown!
- Auto-save: Your note is automatically saved every 10 seconds
- Add tags: Click "TAGS:" in the toolbar and type to add organization tags
Pro Tips
Wiki-links: Type [[ to link to other notes with autocomplete
Templates: Use the Template Manager to create reusable note structures
Preview: Click "Preview" button to see rendered markdown
History: Click "History" to view all versions of your note
